North West Drupal User Group - Manchester

Fri, 2010-09-03 13:52
Date:  Fri, 17/09/2010 - 18:00 - 21:00

MadLab, here we come!

Here's the line-up for this month:

* Welcome and introductions

* Drupal news and upcoming events

* Eli's Fantastic Introduction to the Wonderful World of Profiling and Debugging like Real Grown Ups Do

Whilst client side tools such as Firebug and Webkit's Developer Tools can show you how long it is taking to request a page and all its dependencies, to work out why a particular php request took so long requires a little more introspection. We'll look at how you can use xDebug to generate profiliing files and then analyse them using KCachegrind to find your bottlenecks.

Whilst we're playing with xDebug, we'll also look at how you can integrate it into your development environment so you can pause page generation part way through a request, inspect and even change variables in scope and follow the path of execution step by step.

* Profiling and Debugging Q&A

* General Drupal Q&A

* Drupalcon Copenhagen round up (warning: may include holiday snap type photos)

* Close and pub

If anyone else would like to do a demo or give a talk let me know beforehand.

Admission is free and there will be the usual light refreshments provided by MabLab for a small (or large) donation.

NGOs round-table session at DrupalCon Copenhagen

Tue, 2010-08-17 15:48
Date:  Tue, 24/08/2010 - 10:00 - 10:50

Coming to DrupalCon Copenhagen next week? Interested in Drupal and NGOs/not-for-profits? If so, there's a round-table session you might want to attend on Tuesday 24 August.

This "Birds of a Feather" or BOF session will take place 10:00-10:50, just before Dries' keynote, and is intended for NGOs, not-for-profits, charities etc. and people working with such organisations.

We want not-for-profits to be able to pass on their experiences to each other, and hopefully in the BOF we can provide an environment where questions, worries, problems and general difficulties can all be aired, and then other people can chip in wih their experiences or advice. It might also be a good opportunity for getting to know other people in the sector.

Hope to see as many of you as possible in Copenhagen!

Dedicated Drupal jobs/hiring site

Sat, 2010-07-31 20:52

Hi all,

We were wondering if a dedicated Drupal hiring site would be useful. At the moment it's sort of spread across a few sites, and the jobs section in g.o, while very useful, isn't really the best tool for the job (our own opinion, and from what we've been told).

So we thought we would create a dedicated site where you can post jobs, fixed bid projects and also apply for work and show off your Drupal dev profile. We want to keep the quality high and allow users to filter irrelevant content and spam. Most of all, we want this to be useful to the community.

In order to to this, we'd like your help in giving us a bit of input to help shape the service.

Please have a look at http://drupalhire.net and help us by answering the very short questionnaire.

Any feedback here would be welcome too!

Cheers,
Farez

DrupalCon London Concept Challenge

Sun, 2010-07-25 00:03

Deadline: 10 a.m. 5th August 2010

Sharpen your pencils, we need a strong concept for DrupalCon London that we can use as a starting point for logos, banners, t-shirts, slogans and all other promotional material.

Your concept should be an idea in the form of a written proposal and/or graphic.

One entry will be selected by the DrupalCon London team to be used across all marketing material for the event. All other entries will be showcased here and on Flickr.

The concept must include Drupal and something internationally recognisable about London. It should also communicate both the professionalism and community behind Drupal.

An example concept might be a black cab London taxi, with the slogan “Get The Drupal Knowledge”, and a version of Druplicon. This concept would gain points for strong imagery, but would be marked down because The Knowledge isn’t instantly internationally recognisable.

Rules
  • Must be understandable to an international audience
  • The concept and all submitted wording and graphics must be your own original work, and licensed using Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported Licence
  • Don't include anything which might possibly cause offense
  • The organiser’s decision is final
  • The DrupalCon London team reserve the right to reject all entries if no concept stands out
  • Make us look good!
Submitting

Add a comment to this page with your idea, if you have a graphic post it to the Flickr group DrupalCon London Concepts, then add the Flicker embed code to your comment here, e.g. [ flickr-photo:id=230452326,size=s ]

You are encouraged to adapt and improve other entries, in the best traditions of the Drupal community this challenge should be tackled collaboratively!
