The 5K app gives parkrunners a straightforward way to see their parkrun results history, track PBs, check volunteering records, and look up event information.
A year or two ago, I started to look at this app and another one (parkrunner: weekly 5k results) to figure out how they managed to get the data from parkrun, as parkrun doesn't publish an API to get their data. I asked parkrun directly if there was an API available, as I had an idea about creating an app to help create run reports. Before anyone piles in, yes I know there are tools to get the data to help with stats for run reports, but I wanted to try myself, simply for a hobby project. The company involved in running and developing parkrun's site at the time was very closed and unwilling to provide any kind of info. I asked the developer of another app (the "parkrunner" app) how he acquired the data, and he said the only way he could make his app was by "scraping" the parkrun site.
Hopefully, parkrun will embrace this app and do good things with it and not let it flounder. There’s an announcement about the purchase on Patreon.
